Million Dollar Home Sales jump 56%
After holding steady for several years, sales of Single Family Homes (SFHs) over $1 million in Essex County jumped 56% from 91 to 142 in the first half of 2018.
While most sales took place in the $1-2 million range, there was a significant increase also in sales over $2 million.
And here is the town by town guide for the last two years, with the largest number of sales as usual in Marblehead and Andover, although Boxford showed a sharp increase.

Is my vase worth $14 million?
In my article yesterday, How much is your vase worth?”, I suggested that you check your attic to see if you,too, had a Chinese vase worth $14 million.
I checked mine (well, not the attic as this was on a shelf).
And found this:
Could it be, I asked myself?
It was like checking a lottery ticket: we know we won’t win, but just maybe….
With trepidation I turned to the bottom of the vase, where I found a sticker saying “Japan”.
As in “made in Japan”, not as in “found in attic in Japan”.
Oh well, back to the day job.

How much is your vase worth?
“A rare vase from the Imperial collection of the Chinese Emperor Qianlong, which has remained in a private Japanese collection for almost a century, will lead the upcoming fall sale of Sotheby’s Hong Kong, the auction house announced Friday.

Although Sotheby’s has yet to assess the value of the vase, it is said to be the pair to the famous Bainbridge vase sold for £43 million in an U.K. auction in 2010.” (Barron’s)
Even with the recent appreciation of the dollar that is still the equivalent of $55 million.
And quite recently, an 18th century vase discovered in an attic in France was sold for $14 million.
Might be worth checking your attic.

Corinthian Classic Yacht Parade Sunday at 10:30
The parade portion of the The Corinthian Yacht Club’s Classic Yacht Regatta and Parade will be held Sunday when 25 – plus vintage sailing yachts make there way down the channel from Fort Sewall at Marblehead Harbor and back up to Chandler Hovey Park on Aug. 12 starting at 10:30 a.m.
The best viewing for the event will be from Fort Sewall to the Landing Restaurant or Chandler Hovey Park Lighthouse. Come out and watch the parade! (Marblehead Reporter)

“This is just a great assembly of vintage yachts,” said (SHSIR agent)Timmy Dittrich , who, along with with Bruce Dyson, is co-chairing the event.
“You’ll see yachts that were built in the golden age of sailing,” Dittrich said. “You don’t have opportunities to gather yachts like this very often. The Corinthian Yacht Club is very proud to have them this weekend every year.
