Over the last several months, the Town of Marblehead has participated in the Massachusetts Local Rapid Recovery Plan (LRRP) Program to help support business owners and community members by developing recovery plans for local business districts. In Marblehead, Downtown Marblehead and the B1 District (Atlantic & Pleasant St) have been the focus of our work. This recovery plan has been developed in coordination with the local government, and informed through stakeholder interviews, a public forum, and surveys, and is customized to the individual economic challenges and COVID-19 related impacts in Marblehead. It includes a data analysis as well as an exploration of challenges, barriers, strategies, and actions.
The Town has scheduled a public forum to review the LRRP Final Report and its recommendations on Monday, October 25 at 11am. We hope you’ll join us to view the recommendations of the final report and ask questions or offer comments on the report.
You can view the LRRP report in advance of the forum here (more…)
Swampscott will build a $98 million elementary school on the Stanley Elementary School site at 10 Whitman Road, voters decided in a special election on Tuesday. According to Swampscott Town Clerk Susan Duplin’s unofficial results, the turnout was 35% of the town’s 11,875 registered voters and the affirmative captured 65% of the vote.
Tuesday’s majority vote essentially OK’d a $64 million Proposition 2 1/2 debt-exclusion override. The Massachusetts School Building Authority is making available a $34.3 million grant award toward the school building project, leaving Swampscott taxpayers to pick up the remaining $64 million. The $60 million would be borrowed right away, taking advantage of low-interest rates, and $4 million next year, and the borrowing would be paid back over 30 years, according to the Swampscott Finance Committee.
“The maximum estimated annual net impact on the median single-family household tax bill is approximately $300,” wrote the Finance Committee in a letter printed on last month’s Town Meeting warrant. The new school once built will unify a trio of neighborhood elementary schools: Stanley Elementary School, Hadley Elementary School and Clarke Elementary School. It will serve 900 students enrolled in kindergarten – fourth grade. (more…)
Swampscott is holding an election this coming Tuesday, October 19, to approve funding for the new elementary school.

9 small home improvement projects that achieve amazing ROIs and really pack a punch.
1. Decluttering and cleaning
When you go to sell your home, depersonalizing it goes a long to show home buyers a blank slate in which they can imagine living their lives—rather than a lived-in home where you’ve lived yours. Decluttering and deep cleaning is a great place to start to remove the lived-in look. With low costs and huge visual impacts, deep cleaning and decluttering are recommended the most by real estate agents. According to HomeLight’s research, 98% of agents recommend decluttering and 91% recommend deep cleaning to prepare for market.
2. Landscaping and curb appeal updates
