The snow may disappear sooner than you think
On this morning of extreme cold, when we may fear that this winter will never end, there is good news from Boston.com’s excellent meteorologist David Epstein (@growingwisdom) in this When will we see bare ground? article.
Through a combination of sublimation, melting and compacting, the 100 inches of snow we have received has already been reduced to 20-40 inches of snow still on the ground. Assuming another 6-12 inches of fresh snow and a colder than average March, Epstein estimates that all the snow will be gone by late March or the first few days of April.
Unless, of course, we get another April Fool storm as we did in 1997, but since the purpose of this post is to cheer you up we will not allow that thought to interfere with the hopeful news that there is an end in sight.
