Countdown to 200 home sales
Much like the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop countdown in Times Square (but with a billion or so fewer people watching), the countdown is on to reach 200 SFH sales for the first time since 2007, another sign of a market returning to normal.
Here is a table showing sales for the last 12 years with the date that the 200th sale was recorded (in the years when sales reached that level).
And here’s a chart with sales and a 3 year moving average.
2012 numbers through October 31. Full year sales and moving average will be higher.
At the end of October there were an additional 28 SFHs either under agreement or with an accepted offer. If all these were to close in 2012, total sales would reach 224, within reach of the figure achieved in the early years of the century with the notable exception of 2004.
The next post on Saturday, November 10, will discuss what has been happening to prices. And explaining what has been going on behind the headline numbers.
