Accepted offers on Marblehead homes jump 50% in June

Maybe I am suffering from cabin fever on this wet and gloomy 4th, and maybe that makes me write a more dramatic headline than I usually do.

MLS changed the method of reporting properties with an accepted offer in the middle of May 2013, so June 2014 was the first month where we could compare with a year ago.

Note the steady increase in accepted offers monthly since the spring – not exactly a surprise – but the June number was a big leap.

Most people think the market here slows down after the Fourth of July, in part at least because that marks a good target for buyers who want to be assured they will be in their new homes by the start of the new school year. But last year there were as many accepted offers in July as there were in June.

For sellers, the message is that they can look forward to several more months of sales at a good level.
