Marblehead Harbor may get security cameras

The Marblehead Reporter’s article  Marblehead harbor is eyed for security cameras  describes how, as part of a larger initiative spearhead by the Massachusetts Harbormasters Association that aims to cast a public safety net over the commonwealth’s waterways, cameras may be installed in Marblehead Harbor.

Funding is in place for an initiative which will see cameras go in up and down Massachusetts’ coastline, from New Hampshire’s border to the Cape Cod Canal.

In a press release announcing the grant, the association wrote: “The new initiative will link all the ports and provide multiple agencies with access to viewing incidents that occur on the water bordering the coastline.”

The release goes on to read that security in ports has “been an area of grave concern” for municipalities and state agencies. Marblehead’s participation is contingent upon the Massachusetts Harbormasters Association signing a license agreement to remove the town from “liability for issues that may arise due to the presence of cameras.”
