$25 million price cut in Beverly Hills

January 31, 2021 · by Andrew Oliver · in Luxury Property, Market Reports

According to this American Luxury article, billionaire (and I am old enough to remember when a billion was a lot of money) Steve Wynn has cur the price of his Beverly Hills mansion by $25 million – to “only” $110 million – clearly a bargain.

“The house’s living spaces span over 27,000 sq. ft. across three levels, with eleven bedrooms and at least fifteen baths in all. The interiors recall a high-end hotel, with grey-black trim on white walls, marble and carpeted floors, and backlit tray ceilings appearing throughout.

The home’s spaces include a great room with blue trim, blue pattern carpet, a glamorous chandelier and a marble fireplace surround, a formal dining room in beige tones with a similar fireplace, and a living room in dark red. Amenities include a wine cellar, gym and home theater.

The mansion’s outdoor living areas are a highlight of the design, with upper and lower terrace and balcony space, and a pool and pool house.

The wine cellar’s not too shabby, either.

Shaq sells his Florida mansion – at last!

January 24, 2021 · by Andrew Oliver · in Florida real estate, Luxury Property

According to Mansion Global,” retired NBA star Shaquille O’Neal has finally scored a buyer on his Windermere, Florida, megamansion—one of the largest homes for sale in the Sunshine State.”
A listing for the 31,000-square-foot waterfront home, which comes with a full-sized indoor basketball court and a 17-plus car showroom, was updated Friday to say the sale was pending.

The Mediterranean-inspired contemporary home sprawls across a four-acre property within the Isleworth Golf and Country Club and has 12 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms.
Like many other parts of Florida, Orange County—where Windermere is located—saw a banner 2020, as many home buyers, spurred by the Covid-19 pandemic and record-low mortgage rates, entered the market.
The final sale price won’t be public until the home closes, but the megamansion was last asking $16.5 million, about 40% less than its original $28 million asking price.

Has Elvis FINALLY left the building?

January 3, 2021 · by Andrew Oliver · in Life Style, Luxury Property, Market Reports

American Luxury Magazine reports: “The nuptial Palm Springs retreat of Elvis and Priscilla Presley sold this winter after over six years on and off the market. The so-called ‘Honeymoon House’ modern shared by the couple on a rental basis in 1966-67 was initially listed by its now most recent former owner in 2014, asking $9.5 million; it was subsequently reduced to $5.9 million and by January of this year, it was asking $3.2 million. It closed this month for $2.6 million.”

Flying House in Hollywood Hills on the Market for $8M

December 26, 2020 · by Andrew Oliver · in Luxury Property

From American Luxury magazine come details of this Flying House

Flying Horse

The house occupies a .82-acre hilltop lot in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood. It measures 4,543 sq. ft. across three floors, with the lower floor partially built into the hillside and containing a living area with an outdoor terrace that takes full advantage of its imperious position; the views are stunning.

An elevator trip to the upper levels reveals the main living area and a master suite. The living area is open concept, with glass walls presenting the city as panorama. There’s quite a bit of wood involved, with red brick and tile also prominent in the build; the wet bar is a beautifully designed mix of hardwood and marble.

The suite includes a home office; additional amenities include a recording studio, an outdoor patio, and a zero-edge pool.

$8 million seems to be a snip, especially when compared with the $17 million Tom Brady just paid for a lot on Indian Creek Island as highlighted in Is Tom Brady staying in Florida?

Is Tom Brady staying in Florida?

December 23, 2020 · by Andrew Oliver · in Florida real estate, Luxury Property

As we Patriots’ fans find ourselves watching the play-offs this year from a position of curiosity rather than passion, we can I hope root for “Patriots South”, aka the Tampa Bay Bucs, home of Tom Brady and Gronk.

Following on from his “you won’t catch me dead living in the Northeast anymore” comment, Brady and Giselle have made moves in real estate which seem to support this statement.

According to this New York Post article Tom and Giselle list NYC mansion, they have sold their Tribeca apartment (which I believe is not a walk-up) for close to $40 million, although they are retaining a smaller unit in the same building.

What can you buy for $240 million in London?

August 16, 2020 · by Andrew Oliver · in Luxury Property

It is a question that has, no doubt, been on a lot of people’s minds and now there is an answer.

Megamansion

An opportunity to buy a bonafide megamansion in central London has arisen after a colossal building in the capital—once 18 individual homes—designed by one of London’s most famed architects, hit the market.

Built in the 1820s, the Grade I-listed building spans 117,000 square feet and has planning permission for the development of two houses, 26 apartments and 42 underground parking spaces, according to a news release from Savills, who are joint selling agents along with Aylesford International.

But the agents apparently expect the property to be acquired by an individual. “Nothing on this scale in such a prime London location has ever come up for sale,” Stephen Lindsay, head of Savills St John’s Wood, said in the release. “It is an opportunity to create a special and extensive private estate within the tranquil surrounds of Regent’s Park, moments away from Marylebone High Street and the West End.”

If sold at the asking price this property would become the second most expensive sale in London after the $260 million sale of a mere 62,000 sq.ft house earlier this year.

Painted Rolls-Royce: Art or Sacrilege?

May 30, 2020 · by Andrew Oliver · in Luxury Property

“When Rolls-Royce commissioned artist Bradley Theodore to use a Phantom as a canvas, they of course gave him carte blanche. What emerged from the artistic interplay between Theodore’s consciousness, unconsciousness and subconsciousness is a colorful, primal tonic for everything that a Rolls-Royce represents.

Rolls-Royce

To some extent, John Lennon did the same thing with his own Rolls Phantom back in the late 1960s, turning the model into a gypsy caravan that allowed the political fireball of a musician to have his cake and eat it, too. In treating a symbol of aristocratic privilege in such a way, he was subverting everything it represented…while legitimizing the fact that he got to ride around in a symbol of aristocratic privilege. The sly boots.

Theodore’s approach is more Jungian, working with the Phantom as a vehicle for primeval archetypes. If in this case the Rolls-Royce is a symbol of civilized humanity, Theodore’s treatment has decorated it by allowing the collective unconscious a carte blanche of its own. There’s more than a little Basquiat in there, of course.”

As a traditional Englishman, I don’t like the new RR design anyway, but to paint it? Sacrilege! Or is it art?

What is Marblehead’s most expensive listing ever?

February 23, 2020 · by Andrew Oliver · in Luxury Property, Marblehead News

Patch this week featured 102 Harbor Avenue as the most expensive listing currently in Marblehead – which it is.
But is it the most expensive listing ever?

First, a couple of photos of 102 Harbor

102 Harbor Avenue
102 Harbor Avenue

Now, let’s roll back the clock to 2009 when this house on the Neck was listed for $10.5 million:

385 Ocean Avenue
385 Ocean avenue

While this house was listed at $10.5 million in 2009, by 2015 the asking price had dropped to $6.6 million – and it did not sell.

But wait, there was one even higher listing. Back in 2003 another house on the Neck was listed for a jaw-dropping $23 million!!! But that listing was cancelled the very next day – and then re-entered at …… $2.3 million.

What does $100 million buy in London?

February 15, 2020 · by Andrew Oliver · in Luxury Property

Yes, one of the great questions one asks these days, along with “does the snow-blower have gas as I have no doubt there will be a sudden storm soon”.

I can’t answer the second question, but there’s a solution to the first one:London’s priciest mansion.

Avenue Road

GBP 75 million converts to $97.8 million, leaving enough change for a couple of Rolls-Royces which would go nicely with the house.

Rolls Royce

And the house is listed with Sotheby’s International Realty so I would be happy to refer you to the listing agent in London.

Is Tom Brady’s Brookline house the GOAT?

February 9, 2020 · by Andrew Oliver · in Boston, Luxury Property

The news that the price of Reebok founder Paul Fireman’s Brookline house has been slashed from $38 million to just $33 million…

Brookline

150 Woodland Road

leaves this recently constructed house

Tom Brady
112 Woodland Road

If You Know Who’s house does sell for more than Mr. Fireman’s it would mean that the price was the Greatest Of All Time in Brookline.
